In 1925, Claudel rediscovers in a passage of Jules Renard 1895 Diary a critic of his “vaguely fine”pictures to which it would be better to prefer “the mostly higher exact picture”. The meditation which these reservations arouse in return is in line with a very old reflection on the metaphor in L’Art poétique and on “the picture gift” of the catholic poet. However, this december 1925 note offers a singular “moment” of Claudel thought.
