  • Abstract: In several recent French and Anglophone Arthurian re-writings, the sea remains at the background of the narrative and appears to be mostly linked to Arthur’s departure for Avalon. But in some cases, it plays a more important role and it is directly linked with the character of Arthur. The sea revives the epic dimension of the Arthurian legend and allows us to question its historical foundations; the sea is also a way to revisit Arthur’s sojourn in Avalon.
