- Abstract: Philosopher Vladimir Jankélévitch considers two reactions as possible when facing death: resignation a priori, which is very pessimistic, and resignation a posteriori, which is a form of idealistic optimism. These two options seem totally incompatible. The Québécois novelist Sylvain Trudel examines both positions in his novels and short stories, to the extent that a synthesis becomes possible.
