This article approaches the problem of the ‘non-said’ in the school context by looking at three novels : Up the Down Staircase by Bel Kaufman, Entre les murs by François Bégaudeauet, and Lorsque les anges se reposent by Marina Aromshtam. The fragmentary character of the narrative translates the difficulties of communication at the heart of a system which engenders a rigid universe that inhibits the identity quests of young people.
