Louise Bourgeois’ Inner Life is a reading of Eugénie Grandet. This painting dissociates the body from the externalized surrounding discourses, represented as detached bubbles. It illustrates the violence of intrafamilial situations of transmission and the brutality of social discourses. Louise Bourgeois thus shows that these tensions, omnipresent in La Comédie humaine, far from being hurtful commonplaces, tear and bruise the flesh of bodies.
