The scope and concentration of the romanesque in the picture books of Fred Bernard and François Roca

This article first proposes to study the picture books of Fred Bernard and François Roca as a constellation of “old-fashioned” romanesques that have inspired the creators and that they make accessible to a young contemporary readership. The analysis studies the interplay that is set up, in the dialogue of text and image, creating a double movement of amplification and concentration, which could then constitute one of the forms of romanesque specific to the children’s picture book.
