Children’s literature is evidently less reluctant than general literature to draw on formulae from the romanesque—unlikely coincidences, stereotypical characters, simplistic axiology—to put into fiction a subject as recent and traumatic as the November 2015 Paris attacks. How can we explain, in Maïté Bernard, Didier Pobel, and Vincent Villeminot, the confidence, tinged with anxiety, in the romanesque, the “last refuge” after the Paris attacks?
