This communication takes a closer look at the original practice which consists of interrogating historical modernity by way of the individual trajectories of the author’s ancestors. We thus observe a spiralling mode of writing which escapes from pathetic and gratuitous war discourse without descending into gratuitous humour. This writing is placed alongside interpretations of history emerging from the arrival of the postmodern condition.
