  • Abstract: Emotions caused by the conquest of the sky meet in the interwar period the craze for mysticism. At the confluence of metaphysical novels and adventure novels, aeronautical narratives by Saint-Exupéry, Kessel and Malraux reveal the features of a wild mystic to which they give a deep novelistic colouring, while critically analyzing the heroic intoxication. So the mystical impulse serves the effort to reestablish humanism with a renewed sense of transcendence.
