If Gary’s Pour Sganarelle gives an idea of the way in which the novelist conceives of the relationship between the novel and reality, notably by attacking the two figures who dominated the literary field (Sartre and Robbe-Grillet), Europa then reinvests Robbe-Grillet’s narrative techniques, not with the aim of cutting the work off from reality, but in order to rethink the links between the two and to valorize the lie of fiction as a power of reinvention of the self and the world.
