In a comparison of three major texts, “Au lecteur” (Cellulairement), “Écrit en 1875” (Amour), and the preface to Sagesse, this article reveals what could be termed a regime of truth in poetry, whose modes include testimony, confession, and autobiography. This regime of truth in Verlaine’s work is the source of a new contract with the reader.
