By examining apostrophic segments this article addresses the different scenographies at work in Verlaine’s Sagesse. Analyzing their distribution and naming choices establishes their role in the text. The article highlights the argumentative and rhetorical dimension of the apostrophe, but also its ability to create evocative effects within the context of a general strategy of oscillating between different iterations of textuality: in ipse and in idem.
