Within the sphere of the reception of Nerval’s works in Germany, the translations by Paul Celan are of central importance. Being one of the most significant German-speaking poets of the 20th century, Celan substantially influences this reception. Beyond that, as a translator-philologist, he develops an interpretation that, against the current zeitgeist of Nerval studies, maintains its own unique and autonomous place in the understanding of the French poet.
