This paper explores phenomena of intertextuality in Gérard de Nerval’s Les Monténégrins. Focusing in particular on the second act of the play, in which Maladetta Castle shelters the vampire’s pseudo-fantastic apparition, this paper sets out to analyse the dialogue between theatre and poetry and to demonstrate how poetic devices enrich Nerval’s writing for the stage.
