The article suggests to follow traces of the polish literature in Nerval’s writings. His comments in press and correspondence on Adam Mickiewicz - the greatest Polish romantic, and "the enlightened one" who influenced him - Andrzej Towiański are confronted with Mickiewicz’s courses on Slavic literature at the Collège de France (1840-1844). The comparative reading focuses on religious matters, emphasizing the tension between the skepticism peculiar to the epoch in contrast to the need for faith.
