After reminding readers about what constitutes an eccentric story (according to the essay published in 1987) and its manifestations in Gérard de Nerval, the article attempts to draw up the balance sheets of contribution of this object and its poetics to the study of the novel and Nervalian studies. Two ways of building upon this project are proposed: one comparing the eccentric narrative with the conditions of production of the nineteenth-century press, the other exploring Nervalian travel narratives based on the humorous journey variant of the eccentric story.
