Author of the first Parnasse contemporain, described by Rimbaud as “seer” in his Letter to Paul Demeny of May 1871, revealed twenty years later in a monograph by Verlaine, Albert Mérat remains to this day an unjustly ignored author. A tribute to one who, in Fantin-Latour’s famous painting, Un coin de table (1872), would have been replaced by a vase filled with flowers, but whose poetic work deserves much more than an exegete’s walk.
