By focusing upon the presence of Saint Bernard, Dante’s ultimate guide at the end of Paradise, the study aims to frame the experience of travel in the double hope of earthly peace thanks to an emperor capable of bringing peace and a theological hope linked to the beatific vision. The Saint, reformer of monasticism and heralding the eschatological return of the Christ, perfectly combines these two aspects. His function of intercession with Mary links the creation, the Incarnation and the Trinity.
