Publicity coup Verne and the fuss of the century

This text focuses on Verne’s use of advertising and publicity. We study the way in which success and its rewards—money, notoriety, power, glory—are praised and “sold” in order to evaluate the scenarios of success according to Verne: the morality of action governing advertisement defined first as a public sphere of exchange and debate, then conceived as a success story against a backdrop of illusion or mystification—a “glorious lie” that Verne will suggest dismantling.
