The Reception of Diderot in Paulin’s Gazette littéraire (1829-1831)

From 1829 to 1831, the Paulin edition of Diderot’s Mémoires, correspondances et ouvrages inédits was accompanied by a vast promotional operation orchestrated by a short-lived and little-known journal, the Gazette littéraire: long excerpts published as a preview bring to life Diderot the man and reveal an original philosopher. Each volume of the Mémoires was accompanied by enthusiastic reviews that contributed to the movement to rehabilitate the philosopher who was scorned by the “1830 generation.”
