Arthur Conan Doyle and Edmond Locard, or, How literature influenced science

Arthur Conan Doyle and Edmond Locard were doctor-writers. They would correspond and meet. Surgeon Joseph Bell inspired Conan Doyle, who would also become an investigator. Literature (the character Sherlock Holmes) influenced Locard’s vocation as a pioneering forensic criminologist, which also influenced detective literature. This example of continuous cooperation between medicine and literature, working in both directions, remains original and relatively unknown.
