While the French and foreign publics have celebrated Cyrano de Bergerac for more than a century, this play and others by its author have been subject to often virulent attacks. This work examines the aesthetic and/or political attacks that came from the Symbolist movement, the Nouvelle Revue française, the nationalist right, and the progressive left.
