Berndt Hamm, « “Il te faut bâtir ton arche !”
Berndt Hamm, “‘You Must Build your Ark!’ Ulrich Krafft’s Sermons on Noah’s Ark (1514)”
In 1514, Urich Krafft, pastor of the city of Ulm, gave a long series of sermons about Noah ’ s Ark. His highly original interpretation differs from the medieval exegesis which considered the ark as the church piloted by Christ, or even as a penance. Krafft exhorts each Christian to build himself, through a just and virtuous life, the ark which leads to heavenly bliss. Unlike his contemporary Luther, Krafft insists on mankind ’ s cooperation in his own salvation.
Keywords: Ulrich Krafft, Martin Luther, John Geiler von Kaysersberg, Noah ’ s ark, ship (of penance), divine mercy, preaching, reason, anthropocentric turn, biblical theology.
Philippe Soual, “Hegel as Lutheran”
Hegel claimed to be a Lutheran philosopher. He praised Luther ’ s historical achievements, his translation of the Bible, and his theological and ethical ideas, from the perspective of spiritual freedom and interiority. Hegel ’ s encyclopedic thought preserved important elements from Luther and also meditated, like the theologian of Christ, on the mysteries of the Word of the Cross and of kenosis. Nevertheless, Hegel systematically refreshed and rewrote what he borrowed from Luther, and was often closer to Augustine.
Keywords: Hegel, Luther, Cross, kenosis, charity, faith, ethics, interiority, spirit, Bible.
