The article proposes a re-reading of the structure of 4 Maccabees in the light of the model elaborated for 2 Maccabees by Sylvie Honigman: in both books two parallel series of royal and priestly figures converge towards a synthetic character: Judas Maccabeus for 2 Maccabees, Eleazar for 4 Maccabees, models of a new royalty (mastery of their own passions) and of a new priesthood (fidelity to the Law replaces the sacrifices of the Temple).
