War Economy and the Possibility of Socialist Calculation The Respective Views of Neurath and Weber

The debate on the possibility of socialist calculation between Neurath and Mises and Hayek has as background the war economy, real-life size experience of planning. This debate has been preceded by Weber’s opposition to Neurath’s defense of calculation in kind. It is to a critical presentation of these positions that the article is devoted, from which emerges a reappraisal of Neurath’s thesis in the history of economic thought and the originality of Weber’s arguments that cannot simply be equated to the further main « Austrian » arguments in the inter-war debate.
