While Le Temps retrouvé closes with a series of rather positive propositions, this entire section of À la recherche du temps perdu nevertheless speaks of times that are disrupted, turned upside down, in disarray. The scenes that take place during the war, the episodes with Charlus as well as the “Bal de têtes” are exemplary. The finale is similar to a fairy tale, an extratemporal genre, linked to myths as well as to the unconscious, displaying frightening dimensions, verging on a familiar strangeness.
