Although we are tempted to answer this question in the affirmative, this article acknowledges from the beginning the contradiction between Proustian morality and Kantian precepts, especially with regard to the proposed opposition, echoing the Bible, between duty and inclination. The article then demonstrates how Proustian morality agrees with the second imperative, while reformulating it in the light of a borrowing from Ruskin’s correspondence, a Talmudic reference, and a short story by Mircea Eliade.
