Numerous in the drafts of the Recherche, references to John Ruskin are ultimately quite rare in the final text, and the British writer does not end up having a strong presence there. But Marcel Proust preserved many traces of him. Between direct quotations, paraphrases and contextual reminiscence, John Ruskin is an implicit presence on many pages of the Proustian cycle. This article proposes a categorization of these glimmers of Ruskin, from the best known to the most unexpected.
