Analyzing the various peritexts of the Italian (1701) and Spanish (1702) translations of La Gallerie des femmes fortes, this article examines how this volume was appropriated in political and sociocultural contexts that differed from that surrounding its composition. Above all, analysis of the prologues highlights the importance of peritexts in the creation of the book-as-object and its reception. The Peruvian translation, often believed lost, is especially revealing.
