Bossuet is rarely mentioned in the Encyclopédie. This rarity can be explained by a gradual secularization of the theological-political field. However, it also leads to transferring Bossuet’s work into the field of eloquence, an object of deep change from the end of the seventeenth century. Bossuet’s Oraisons funèbres therefore contribute to define a renewed relationship to literary expression, namely around the notions of sublime and génie.
