Rabelais began his literary career in Lyon in the 1530s, and also worked for the printer-booksellers Sébastien Gryphe and François Juste. His place in the workshop–which made the author of Pantagruel both a privileged witness of printed production and an important (although at times discreet) actor in the Lyonnais world of books– is ripe for re-evaluation.
