“The Sovereign conversation” Quick Passage through Rimbaud’s Poetics in the Company of René Char

It will come as no great surprise that among those whom Char called his “substantive allies” the presence of Arthur Rimbaud looms large. Despite the half-century separating them, the two poets have much in common, and from the biographical to the poetic or the philosophical point of view. The present paper proposes a brief overview of Rimbaud’s poetics in the company of René Char – or perhaps, stated otherwise, this brief passage through Char’s poetry in the company of Rimbaud.
