The notion of neologism applied to ancient Greek. The example of ἁγήλατος (« purifier ») (Lyc. 436)

The verbal adjective ἁγήλατος (Lyc. 436) is accounted for as a neologism, a concept perfectly suitable for Ancient Greek. Although we cannot use the experience of Ancient Greek-speaking people, it is possible to prove the neological nature of ἁγήλατος, if we simultaneously take into consideration the derivational category to which it belongs, the context in which it is used and the literary tradition from which it was created.
