The classification of neologisms A critical overview and proposal for a multivariable and functional typology

The classification of neologisms is a complex task that has not yet been satisfactorily resolved. This article has the following objectives: first, to provide a critical review of the different classification of neologisms made so far; second, to establish the most relevant criteria that determine each classification and, finally, to justify the advantages of a multivariate classification established on explicit, systematic, complete and unambiguous criteria.
