Antoinette Renouf, « Some corpus-based observations on determinologisation »
The evolution of terminology, studied from the point of view of determinologization, based on a diachronic corpus of 1.5 billion words taken from the newspapers The Independent and The Guardian, makes it possible to identify the salient features of this evolution: the coexistence of divergent meanings and uses, primary and secondary determinologization, flexional specificity in the face of lemmatization, the innovative use of specialized and semispecialized terms, as well as the question of grammatical change.

270In the eighteenth century, scientists claimed their right to modify the established meanings of words to give them a scientific acceptation and also to resort to neologisms. From a corpus created for this thesis, this article addresses the most interesting cases of neology in botany and chemistry in order to examine its implementation in the scientific terminology of the fields discussed as well as in the lexicographical sources of the time.
Keywords: Diachronic terminology, neology, scientific French, eighteenth century
Terminology from the domain of goldsmithing and silversmithing and the conditions of its appearance and its development depend on the scientific progress and the technical changes that have taken place in artisanal and industrial practices. The aim of this study is to consider the phenomena of creation, disappearance, and resurgence of tool-related terminology evolving according to productive processes as well as historical and social factors.
Keywords: Neologisms, (obsolete terms), goldsmithing and silversmithing, tools, terminology, technique
271Adopting both an onomasiological and a semasiological approach, this article identifies and describes some neologisms used in the field of renewable energy between 1990 and 2016. The corpus consists of academic articles, laws, government reports, etc. Then attention is focused on the analysis of the results, mainly on the neological syntagms of the type Name + Adjective, with modeling using ECL lexical functions from Meaning-Text Theory.

Melania Cabezas-García et Pamela Faber, « The role of micro-contexts in noun compound formation »
In specialist languages, compound nouns are the most frequent terms and their translation often poses problems due to differences in how they are formed in various languages. As a result, their semantic analysis is indispensable, in particular in the study of the role of predicate-argument structures, known as microcontexts. Composite nouns from the wind-energy field in Spanish are studied along with their equivalents in English.

272Terms from the field of education, higher learning, and research, examined by the French language enrichment system, are of interest to the press because they affect a broad segment of the public. The study of their diffusion is carried out using three examples: MOOC (or mooc) which has not been supplanted by French equivalents, enfant du numérique, which has held up well in competition with the borrowing digital native, and finally the term twittclasse, which is placed “under observation.”
Keywords: Educational terminology, official neology, borrowings, French equivalents, diffusion of terms
This article presents several aspects of the current situation involving official efforts to enrich the French language. It analyzes its general framework, which has been recently modified. But above all, it is important to emphasize the contribution of experts and scientific or technical specialists, which too often seems to be underestimated.
Keywords: Expertise, official terminology, neology, the linguist’s excessive security, the domain expert’s insecurity
This article analyzes the discursive dynamics associated with the emergence of a “neonymic feeling” and a “metaphorical feeling” through the study of a corpus of 273specialized online interactions. The aim is to verify whether, from the phase of individual invention (using metaphor) to the validation phase of neonyms as specialized terms, the metaphorical nature of new terms can have an impact on their validation and their acceptance within the community that uses them.

The biomimetic approach is inspired by solutions adopted by living organisms to improve products, services, or innovate in various fields. The most commonly used English terms are biomimetics and biomimicry, translated into French as (la) biomimétique and (le) biomimétisme respectively. But these terms are underpinned by very different ideological positions, which has an impact on translation, which is shown by the case of biomimetic architecture.
Keywords: Biomimetic approach, semantic field, ideology
This paper evaluates a method for discovering neologisms (new terms) and nécrologisms (obsolete or soon-to-be-obsolete terms) in informatics terminology during the 274decade 2001-2010 (informatics is rapidly evolving), with two diachronic corpora from widely distributed English language journals from 2001-2005 and 2006-2010. The results show that this method, when properly used, is better adapted for discovering new terms and noun forms.

The terminology used to describe Bluetooth wireless telecommunication technology, obtained from comparable technical, scientific and didactic corpora, is used to study primary and secondary English and secondary language training procedures in French and Portuguese. Approximately ten procedures are used in English. In French and Portuguese, the attested procedures form a continuum from direct borrowing to borrowing through translation, from direct integral borrowing to transpositional calquing.

275If a neologism is a new word or a new use of a word, is granulé de bois a neologism? A new object such as a wood pellet is a technical object; who creates the name(s) of a new technical object? What is important: the birth of the thing, the birth of its name, the formalization of a name? In the case of a technical object, which meaning is important: the cultural stereotype or the expert stereotype? This article aims to answer these questions.
