This article offers an overview of several
key issues and changes in the field of blending studies using data coming mainly
from English, French and Modern Hebrew. It discusses the terminology used in
French and English, the defining criteria of the concept which have been adopted
in the literature, the distinction between blending and compounding, the variety
of disciplinary and methodological approaches taken in the last three decades and
novel avenues of research which might shed fresh light on the complexity of lexical
blending.
