This article presents the results of a method of semi-automatic extraction of new
terms in French in the field of terrorism. Two specialized subcorpora were constituted
and these were compared to a newspaper corpus. The possibilities of extracting emerging
terminology in this field were explored in the wake of the September 11 2001 attack. A
term extractor identified potential neologisms and these were studied in both specialised
and newspaper sources with regard to their integration. To do this, particular attention was
paid to the dates at which these potential neologisms appeared, how their frequency varied
and how they were taken up in reference works. This technique also gave some insights
into the degree of specialization of the terminology of the field.
