Enamored of all forms of culture, Maxime Du Camp (1822–1894) tried to adapt as best he could to his century of modernity and innovation to become an accomplished representative of it. Writer, historian, sociologist, investigator and journalist at the same time, he tried to invest his literary creation with all his passion in order to renew the literary inspiration that he was not willing, as a good romantic, to abandon despite the criticisms he endured. He was always yearning for “artistic wonders.”
