The Circulation and Critical Reception of Matilde Serao’s Writings in Russia

Matilde Serao’s works were published extensively in Russia between the mid-1880s and the first decade of the twentieth century. After exploring the translations of her works in Russia and their reception in journals and newspapers of the time, the chapter focuses on the multiple editions of All’erta, sentinella! that circulated under different titles. The second part of the chapter explores Serao’s reception in Russian literary circles through the analysis of the critic Vladimir Frice’s views.
