The reception of Louise Colet in Portugal is a degraded reflection of the position that French critics have long assigned her in the history of literature. Thus, for many Portuguese authors and readers, she only exists insofar as being Flaubert’s correspondent and mistress. However, the Portuguese version of one of her works, Enfances célèbres, was met with some success.
