Louise Colet, a keen admirer of the Italy of the Risorgimento

In four volumes, L’Italie des Italiens relates the year-and-a-half-long journey that Louise Colet made to the Italian peninsula and Sicily between October 1859 and May 1861, enthusiastically following the progress of the patriots toward the liberation and unification of the country. Although this crucial period of the Risorgimento is widely mythologized, it is a living testimony to how part of the Italian and foreign population lived through this time.
