Between materialism and Pythagoreanism The heterodox culture of seventeenth-century Rome

The essay studies some new research on philosophical, heterodox, and Nicodemite Rome. Three lines of investigation are proposed: the spread of the Ficinian tradition, the diffusion of Pythagoreanism and the propagation of Bruno's thought. Through the reading of texts, analysis of documents, and exemplary intellectual biographies, allows to study whether an philosophical and religious sensibility different from both the mortalism of the materialists and Catholic orthodoxy existed in Rome.
