While humanism insisted on anchoring the literary text in a specific culture, metaphors are often worn out by convention. This collection of studies on some of the humanist masters demonstrates the creative vivacity inherent in this language, which is simultaneously etiolated and fertilized by the cultural world that encompasses it.
