Boredom in Les Petits Chevaux de Tarquinia

The characters in Duras’ novel Les Petits Chevaux de Tarquinia do nothing but wait for the rain to come in an agonizing and torrid landscape. They experiment either boredom (Ludi’s group) or anguish (Sara). Some look for an efficient entertainment to overcome the fear of loneliness while Sara abysses in “the fear of breakdown” (Winnicott) caused by our weak and mortal condition (Pascal).
