In 1917, Guy Arnoux and Paul Moreau-Vauthier published a retelling of Le Petit Chaperon Rouge (the French version of Little Red Riding Hood). With a strong patriotic aim, it tells a tale in which the big bad wolf becomes the enemy incarnate. This animal-character transcends the figure of the villain, transforming the German into a being who is inhuman by nature, but is, above all, dehumanized. The aim is to instill hatred of the enemy into the minds of the younger generation, in a word, to inculcate hatred for the big bad Boche.
