This article examines the way in which Christian Wolff analyzed the question of atheism in his Latin works and in the context of his quarrel with the theologian Joachim Lange, who accused him of atheism. While establishing a series of categories (theoretical, practical, skeptical, Epicurean, and “strong-minded” atheists), Wolff exonerated the majority of philosophers and turned the accusation, in the name of philosophy, against the weakness of the theologians’ discourse.
