The secret steps of Abbé Trublet toward becoming Immortal

This article analyzes the unpublished correspondence between Nicolas-Charles-Joseph Trublet and Luigi Lorenzi, Resident Minister of France in Tuscany from 1735 to 1765. These letters lead us to examine his connections between the academic and diplomatic worlds, and reveal Trublet to be a secretive and scheming figure who, as one of the best-informed men in Paris, used his knowledge to expand his network and increase his chances of obtaining a seat at the academy.
