Dans cette bibliographie, j’ai pris le parti de différencier les fonds d’archives, les entretiens faisant partie de fonds d’histoire orale ainsi que les sources primaires imprimées de la littérature secondaire. Les autobiographies écrites par des acteurs de l’époque sont classées parmi les sources primaires, alors que les notices nécrologiques des uns et des autres sont comptées au nombre de la littérature secondaire. Les articles de journaux sans nom d’auteur sont classés sous l’entête du titre du journal dans lequel ils sont parus ou de l’institution responsable du journal (ex. le nom de l’académie pour le bulletin relevant de celle-ci). Par ailleurs, j’ai introduit quelques grandes catégories reprenant les domaines auxquels touche l’ouvrage afin de permettre d’aller plus facilement à l’essentiel sur ces questions.

Bien que la plupart de ses œuvres soient traduites en français, Sinclair Lewis, hormis quelques thèses, ne semble pas avoir fait l’objet d’études de grande ampleur dans cette langue. C’est tout juste s’il trouve place dans les revues d’ensemble de la littérature américaine. Impossible ici, sorte de prophétie antifasciste vient pourtant d’être réédité fort à propos dans la traduction de Raymond Queneau de 1937 aux éditions de La Différence (2016).
