In 1568, the poet and translator Anne de Marquets (1533? – 1588) published a paraphrase of the patristic hymn Te Deum laudamus in her book Les Divines Poesies de Marc Antoine Flaminius. This version of Saint Ambrose’s hymn mirrors, in several places, Ronsard’s own paraphrase of the same text, which was published three years earlier in 1565. This intertextual reference indicates the importance of courtly poetry, and especially the poetry of Ronsard, for this poet, a Dominican nun.
