The French genre of the étrenne, a poem written on the occasion of the New Year, is marked by the influence of Clément Marot; however, the poets of the “Brigade” took up this genre in the 1550s. Among them, Ronsard only published about ten of these New Year’s poems, but he left his own mark on this genre, in terms of both the form and the tone he used in certain pieces. This article therefore analyzes the ways in which Ronsard adapted the genre.
